A RACE AGAINST TIME - The Sharla Butler Story is based on the true story of
former Texas track star Sharla Butler who attended Lancaster High School, home of the eight time state champion Lancaster
Lady Tigers. Sharla left an indelible mark that today has resulted in the making of this film.
The presence of her spirit was felt throughout this production, with actors and team members occasionally being
brought to tears as we re-traced her final years.
We express our sincere gratitude to The Butler Family for allowing us
into their lives at a time when they are still healing, and we hope this film helps to comfort them. During the making of this film I shared this story with my elderly mother and
told her about the strength of this Butler Family. After mentioning names and locations my mother connected
some dots, and it turns out I have a blood kinship with Sharla and this family. Never had I been more confident
that I was chosen to help share and spread Sharla's purposeful life story. It is a story of hope, about the
spiritual fortitude of a family that has taken the worst life can throw at you and still get up in the morning and
continue this life journey, even being able to find reason to smile again knowing that because of their faith
in Christ the entire family will someday be together again.
Her
story imparts upon us all the brevity of life and how we should strive to do the best we can while we can, while at the
same time humbly submitting our fate to the father within us. Sharla understood that tomorrow was not promised even
to the young, and she knew that her greatest victory would garner more than ribbons and trophies given on earth.
In her final days it was evident that her eyes were on the greater prize of eternal life with her Lord and Saviour.
